A shad becomes an Elf when it turns green
Or do they turn blue when they get big ? I forget (having never caught one over a ruler and a bit myself)
The action was around X by the poles and to the right of that.
Big pull was to the left of X
Big is about the same pull as a 50cm kingy, HARD!
Average is about 30cm
Small is.. well..., small.
So if a Shad is over 30cm its an Elf?
Regards
Craig

Here on the West Coast, the big elwe are the Blou Elwe.
Shad only occur in Natal.
and if you caught 2 elwe you have a 22.

Hi there guys
Just some advice on fishing Hermanus.
If you are shore bound things can be tough because of the excessive weed growth along the edges. The ideal is to have an Ark or similar. The most popular spot from shore is Maanskynbaai but get there early for any kind of action. Elf Point on the opposite bank (lower down towards the sea) is also very good.
Irrespective of the above, the best time to fish is before or at first light. The Elf and Leeries patrol along the edges during this time and action can be very hectic.
After about ten in the morning things can get quite busy with guys water skiing, so plan your day around that.
The Elf are quite fond of surface flies here, so the Gurglers etc work well. I have however had by far the most success with Siliclones tied in Chart/White in size 2/0. Fish this on an intermediate line so it comes in just sub surface.
Enjoy
