Hi Reinier
That is a very nice vice. And priced really well. Did you order it direct or did you buy local ?
Cheers
Guys,
I'm purchasing myself a fly tying set this afternoon, and i've settled for the HMH Silhouette Vise which seems like a good all round vise. Now before i head on through and get sold all kinds of materials i do not really need....
What would you guys consider to be the most frequently used fly tying material...ie the colour dubbing, string, hackle and hairs needed?
Primarily i would want to tie flies for Yellows including Dry, Caddis and Nymphs and small little poppers.
Thanks

Hi Pierre,
Purchasing it from Frontier Flyfishing. Haven't got it yet, but its going for R1 300, does that sound right?
I think you will do better to order direct. Here is the link to the website
http://www.hmhvises.com/silhouette.html
Vice costs : $95 = R650
Even with shipping it should not cost you more than R800
If you take the c clamp shipping could even be cheaper since the pedestal is quite heavy
What accessories are you getting with it ?

Gents, I dont know what the issue is with expensive vises!? I use an old Sunrise (bang kok special) vise.......no problems. Maybe it's all about sentimental value?
Just think, you will have R500 extra cash to spend on materials
That price definitely looks better, Perhaps is should negotiate with these guys now that I know what their getting it for?
The other tools would include scissors, thread bobbin, whip finisher, hackle pliers, hair stacker, bodkin/half hitch tool, and bobbin threader.
But what i really need to know is what fly material one would need to get started?
