Hi All,
Again the Vaalie budding in, sounds like there was some fun to be had on the streams, I wish I could take a quick drive and be on your streams. What Chris is saying is so true. Last year on the Vaal it was just too easy, this year is a different story. Last year I found myself looking for more challenging fishing, this year I am enjoying the tuff conditions on the Vaal. The challenge is important, and as long as it is there, we will be going back weekend after weekend to try break that proverbial "code".

I am haunted by waters - Norman Maclean
Behold the fisherman. he riseth early in the morning and disturbeth the whole household. mighty are his preperations. he goes forth full of hope and when the day is ended, he returneth smelling of strong drink and the truth is not with him. originator unknown.

Chris I must admit I am really enjoying the streams and I can't wait to go again. I'm also enjoying the getting fitter part From my first trip to now it's a big change. Fishing with someone you enjoy also helps and Nic and I are plodding along happily. He keeps me entertained with his impressive falls, even with my wading stick I had 1 metre to go to get out and I slip, bang my shins, sopping wet. Anybody walking on our stretch of water will be highly entertained.
I did some saltwater fishing yesterday and what a letdown. The silly season is truly upon us as every clown and his dog would come and stand behind you. The one guy brings his chairs and stuff and sets up right behind. I show him he's in the wrong spot, he just ignores me and I had to move off. I even had some ********s swimming after my popper.
I packed up and went for a cold beer. So yes this season I am going to be spending a lot of time on the steams rather. Can't wait.

I think Rols summed up the day nicely, nothing to add except great day on the water, and in the water , cheers Rols for a good day...
I think no innocent species of wit or pleasantry should be suppressed; and that a good pun may be admitted among the smaller excellencies of lively conversation.

[T]his planet is covered with sordid men who demand that he who spends time fishing shall show returns in fish. ~Leonidas Hubbard, Jr.
Shaun,Not wanting to digress from the freshwater thread...but it was a nightmare. The people are walking and looking at me casting but don't stop, I had to shoot early as they'd carry on. I thought of whacking the dude with my fly, but my luck I'll get him in the eye or something. I was really peed off

“Apparently people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bullshit, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! Wait a minute - I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you” ― Lemmy Kilmister

Sunday morning saw excellent weather conditions and no wind early morning, later a very light SW.
The trout were rising readily to cadis and other hatches of small baetis.
Around midday the wind changed from a up steam wind to a down stream wind and the fish stooped rising. However we continued to rise fish on dries.
It was good to see a lot of fingerling's as I have being seeing on the other rivers, so its good to know that we had an excellent spawn last winter.
I dont know if working for water are Stofberg is responsible for thinning out the invasive vegetation along the river banks, but it is appreciated to see. I hope that all the off cut dont become a fire hazard later on when it all dries.

Yes Rols,
I took the kids yesterday to Strand for some fishing but hell the holiday makers are making it tuff to fish. I get the nice school of mullet and this real idiot comes and jumps in to cool of in the water. I also packed up and left, in hinnd site I just had to give a fly rod to each of the twins with nice big hook and let them rip between the swimmers, that should clean a beach out quickly
