I built a 2wt ESN strictly for nymphing smaller river where I used to take the 0wt TXL for dries. Time and place for everything though, low water is really hard for nymphing because of the landing plop on the water - fish scatter. But this is like the land cruiser land rover debate . . . . .
I will be nymphing soon for yellows on the vaal and cannot wait. There's always a time and place for everything.

The Vaal takes awhile to get used to if you grew up fishing in the Cape, but I love it. Very very different fishing. Let me know when you are up here and maybe we can find time on the water.

PS im still very new to FF and still have tons to learn. personally I would have loved to nymph that water but wasnt prepared.
We fished EP1 on Friday. Also a very tough day! Fast flowing water and didn't see a single fish, never mind a rising fish. I tried nymphing but got no results.
Although I am also still very new to fly fishing and still figuring things out.

With the fast flowing water, the fish will be sitting in little holes and pockets. If the fly is not in front of their nose, they do not take it and with the fast water, the takes are so quick if you are new, you are probably not registering it, as the rejection of the fly is even faster. Trout in fast water can take and eject a fly in less than HALF A SECOND.

So we were crazy enough to go fishing yesterday on EP2.

Got one fish before being forced to retreat (about 100m into the beat) due to a rain jacket not actually being waterproof anymore. Apart from that, I think it would've been a good days fishing.
Saw and spooked quite a few fish in that first bit of the beat.

The one caught was hiding with another fish under a rock didn`t see them at all just saw the indicator stop.

Was nice to see how hard it was raining. Little waterfalls everywhere.
So tell me.... How Big's yours?

Went out yesterday on EP1 with occie from the forum. We got 7 fish between us (I caught 2 of them ). There were a couple fish lost off the hook too. All fish were caught on dry flies and the fish were going for them pretty aggressively. Was tons of fun!

Second time on the streams for me and still tons to learn. Took a tumble and dropped my phone twice in to the water (luckily it's water resistant)

HI we also went out fished hotel and SB 4/5, got 3 fish all on dries and missed a few more, fish were feeding well in the riffles and smaller pools, fishing seemed to pick up after 11 when the insects became more active. Water levels are ok, not great for early in the season I think it's going to be tough by Jan/feb.
