All along the coast there is harders (mullet), on a fly rod they are good fun, but very tricky.
All the bays and inlets might be worth a try.
Hi guys
Im going to be up in the west coast area near Hondeklipbaai area for a week in December. Last time we were there I noticed that the Groen rivier had quite a wide section close to the sea even thought the mouth was relatively small. Have any one fished in this river and is it worth a try with FF kit?
Any other spot along that coast that anyone know of?
Thanks

Around the steel no tortur'd worm shall twine, No blood of living insect stain my line;
Let me, less cruel, cast feather'd hook, With pliant rod athwart the pebbled brook,
Silent along the mazy margin stray, And with fur-wrought fly delude the prey
Im definately taking my FF kit. Got a new 9 weight kit and realy keen to give it a try. Would it be worth it to just blind cast into the surf with FF kit or would that be waisting time? If you would only choose a couple of flies for the surf what would it be? (Colours and sizes?)I need to go buy a few in the next 2 days so any advice would be apreciated.
thanks
Try some clousers (chart, olive), surf candies (chart) crazy charlies(tan, chart, pink), dogs breakfast's (chart, orange) and a white flipper or two and a couple of salty buggers(different colours). That will give you a lot of diversity. And maybe a small tan crab just in case. You don't need all these they are just some ideas to keep in mind when you get to the shop. If you come past my shop a little later today ill give you a few that you wont find at flywaters. (got my tying kit with me in the office )

Tx Matt, hoping to pop in at Flywaters abit later today or tommorow. Will see if I can make a turn by you. You got the secret cant fail patterns?
Hi Morne
I have 4x4'd that whole coast line silly over the past 10 years and I can tell you that Groen rivier mond is hardly worth the effort to prospect for fish. Firstly, it has a closed mouth, and secondly, the river is extremely salty (even too salty for fish to survive), and thirdly, it is not the place where you will be wanting to spend any amount of time if you are camping, much too crowded with all farmers from 100's of km around. This is their annual stomping ground. But anyway there are much better spots that you can have all to yourself as little as 5 km away. Find a lekker sheltered cove and claim it as your own.
The fish most caught along that coastline is Hottentot. There are also a few good cob spots, Jock se Baai being one of them (but once again too crowded for my liking). At night you get the sea lice ( huge things that look like small armadillo's) coming out at low tide en masse to feed on decomposing kelp. Just as quickly as they appear, they are gone within an hour. These are excellent Steenbras bait. I would suggest you los the fly stuff alone...and go conventional pal.
Enjoy, it is a wonderful stretch of coast line.

Tx Chris. Yes Im taking my conventional tackle with and will probably use it most of the time. I have a couple of spots on my GPS that was good quite camping spots away from all the farmers from when we were there before .
I thought of taking the FF gear with to keep me busy while waiting for the big one on the conventional tackle. Definately going to be looking for some crayfish as well.
As a side line: Was watching "Cooked" the weekend and the okes were doing FF for mullet. Before they went in the water the one oke filled his fany pack with hands full off those little criters that feeds on the kelp. Would they use that for luring the fish in? Didnt get to see what they used it for. They did catch a couple though.
