I usually go to geelvis paradys..
Welkom Dieter, you'll soon find yourself not worrying about the driving distance to the Vaal!!! Geelvis is OK, but dont be scared to try the other venues. There's some good ones out there!

Thanks alot you guys.. You sure make an oke feel welcome.. I can agree with the name change of geelvis paradise to mudfish paradise.. If I can recall correctly I have only spotted one guy having a yellow on but he was unable to land it with his 4wt outfit..

Do you guys have any suggestions as to not so crowded venues close by or in that same area..?

Does any one know what the flow levels are on the vaal for the weekend I may be going but rather safe then sorry..?

Reality is there are no "under" crowded venues out in that area!
Flows are hovering around 78 - 80 cms. Not advisable to fish.

Just pass Yellowfish and you'll find a lot more venues on that same road.

Dizzy said something about the flows, 78m3/s I think. That's a bit hectic!!! I hope it dropps before Sunday!

You can get the flows from:
    http://www.dwaf.gov.za/Hydrology/rtmain.aspx

Use the values for goosebay if you are close to the barrage and the values for schoemansdrift if you are between Parys and Potch. There are spans of posts explaining optimal flow rate for venues, where to fish when etc. Happy Digging.
