    Default Perfect Yellows rod

I know each person has their own preference in what they are looking for in a rod but if you forget about brands names for a while.

What would the ideal characteristics be for the ultimate or ideal fly rod for yellows?

Smallmouth Yellows: 5wt, 9 foot, 5 piece, medium-fast action, single foot guides, two stripping guides (larger than usual), and a smooth transition from butt to tip with regards to power.

Largemouth Yellows: 7wt, 9 foot, 4 piece, medium-fast action, snake guides, two stripping guides, less flex in the butt than the 5wt...making for a power butt yet responsive tip.

hahaha. Just my opinion of course. But I said 9foot rods as I have found them better for CZN than 10' rods. More sensitive, and the extra weight of the 10' is not lekker for a full day's fishing.

Hey Byron, nice avatar!! Better than the "ripple caused by stone thrown in water" pic....

When are you going stop catching "gillimientjies".?
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

Do you mind if I ask what is the reason for the four and five piece rod setup when compared to a 3 piece rod setup?

No need to mo*r you. Your restitution will be a 2# Albright, 5 piece smuggler, EACH.
If not forthcoming then be afraid, be very afraid.

Purely for travel purposes...the 3 piece rods's tubes are a little long for carry-on luggage. Especially the 5 piece, it's about 4 or 5 inches shorter than the 4 piece tube even, so it's great to travel with.
There is also the theory that a 5 piece blank is better than a 4 piece blank...but I don't have any facts on that. To me, it's just to travel easier.
