Hope you catch that big one next time. Check out the Mahseer fishing in India and Nepal. They look very much like our large mouth yellow and grow over 60kg, known to test your tackle to the extreme. Misty Dhillon is about the best fly fishing guide around there.

Went to Stroome on Saturday. Lots of fish around - dont think anyone had issues catching. Water a little more discoloured from the recent rains. Muddies where pretty much going through their spawn - Great to see the river se alive and active. Lets hope we get some better rains soon.

as per Jades post just that i fished Strydoms. caught a few nice yellows in the first channel near the parking side, averaging 2kg and the best one at 3,1kg all from 1 meter to 1,3 deep water. the muddies were prepping for the spawn, i think. i say this because they didnt continuously thrushed their tails but did for a very short period when a single muddie moved up into the quieter water and bumped into the awaitng party of four or five individuals, the ones waiting there thought the game was one, actually it was funny watching them horny things. also the muddies were about a foot long no biggies, but in groups of 10's or twenty's were seen in tiny pools.
practice my french/spanish leader setup, however i have gone with a much thicker line, did this to see and feel the difference and to my surprise it did work alot better, now to downsize a little. wont mention the thickness because someone will kill me here if a had to mention it, it was 0,6mm. hehehehe, but as someone here said, "you have experiment and see what works for you", doing just that.
best fly for the day was the black mayfly tied on a jig hook with a orange 2,5mm tungsten bead.

I struggled to get the bloody carp to eat - they were thousands of them, but being a pain. Also, I am convinced that fish are eating smaller flies in the low flows.
