Flashy profile flies

who fishes these flies on a regular basis, they look awsome and I see that most of the offshore and GT guys fish them.

who has tieing steps for them, I have tied some but I'm not sure that they will "swim" correct??? I am worried that they will spin my leader.

will leeries and skippies eat them, they arnt deep swimming flies so I would presume that these fish will eat them.

any help whould be appreciated.

I use em regularly offshore , off late I been using tubes....

word of advise when tying FPF's ..... "as little epoxy as possible" What i mean by that is , cover head with epoxy, top,bottom,sides, work epoxy into material. ensure shape is desirable. then start scraping excess epoxy off with bodkin needle. U can use a small blow torch to "quickly" heat the epoxy to warm it and liquify it.
NB as little epoxy as possible.

As for tying
start material building from hook shank and build on top and bottom, one or two bunches of material on sides including flash. mix flash into the material.

that was the thing that worried me, the epoxy made the head look big and I know that a slightly unballanced hed will cause the fly to spin. That link that was posted doesn't give pics of the steps, I like to see what they are doing. I will st some pics of my flies as soon as I get a chance.

The only thing to remember with profile flies is that you retrieve them WITH or AGAINST the current and not across the current. With or against they swim upright (the weight of the hook ensures that) across they swim on their side, but will still take fish.

Coop caught a MOTHER of a three spot pompano on an SF Fibre Profile, Leeries will eat them too as do Shad and I have even caught a Rock Salmon on an SF Fibre Bend Back Mullet.

The fly must have at least sixty percent flash in the wing for billfish. If it consists of too much Supreme hair, then the hair tangles on the bill which makes it very difficult to actually set the hooks. The flash also helps to make the fly really visible so that the Sail can find it while still very hot.

I only tied fifteen FPF for my trip to Mozambique and used eight packs of saltwater flash.
