    Default How to with tails

    Hi,

I need some advice on tails please.Right, here's the scenario.

Lets say I want to use fibbets as tails on Mayfly nymphs to adults but the taper of the tail is cut away already.

Is there a way to create that taper again ie saving material or is it better to just use a new batch and start of new?

    Thanks
    G

After reading your post on the dyeing of Capes, I would say that you should just use a new batch. Saves you the extra steps of finding a way of re-tapering cheap fibbets.

    Cutting tapers on fibbets??? Yikes!

As far as I know fibbets are tapered by heat, so try a clothing iron - good luck. Waste of time imho, since fibbets are really cheap.

If it's too pricey to replace cut-off fibbets, buy cheap paint-brushes, they also have tapered fibres.

Put a lighter to them, it doesn't do a gradual taper, but does re-tip them so to speak.

For the ones you singe too much, you will be forced to replace them by buying a new pack.

Rather than buy Microfibetts, buy a Whiting Coq de Leon tailing pack.
Lots of stiff, shiny & barred feathers for use as tails, RAB legs etc.

Ja, but once the tips are cut off, how are you going to taper them again??
