I think I should have fished shallower throughout the day. It was very windy and the theory is that the chop on the surface makes the surface more oxygen rich and the fish feel more secure there, whereas no waves makes them feel more exposed and they go deep. That is the theory and my fishing yesterday seems to support it.

Both fish that i caught on the Di7 were when the flies were coming up from the bottom - I was just too stubborn to change until i eventually hooked (and lost) a fish when retrieving as the fly hit the water, and that finally convinced me.

Even though it was later in the afternoon, if i let the di3 sink too far down i would get nothing until it was coming up to the side of the boat. If I retrieved after a 5 second countdown or less i would get plenty hits throughout the retrieve.

Thanks Grant. You sure are becoming a master of the countdown thing...and basically just working things out in general. Excellent boet!

Ja the countdown to me is a simple thing to do when fishing sinking lines (or flies) yet one of the most important.

    hi grant
thanks for that info. hav'nt been to laakies for a good while, and never when the water has been this high. can you still fish from the side or is a tube or boat the better way to go. ( i know physically, you can fish from the side)
    better on a tube?
    cheers

Rols you can do well from the bank at lakies, especially in the mornings and evenings but i reckon throughout the day you should pick up fish.

With the dam being full you will find there are a lot more obstacles behind you which will make casting a lot more fun, and also you might find it difficult to find a spot to cast where the wind is not at a difficult angle.

I tell you one thing though, I think i would prefer to fish from the bank than from a float tube if the wind is like it was on Saturday. If I had to kick all day against that i would have died. Since getting my Ark, the wind is my friend!

Kev - Tim didn't get any fish and his son in law caught one, but they had the Swambos there so they did not fish very much. They were in kickboats and got battered around quite a bit.

Hi Guys....kyle and I fished on sunday.Just the morning session from 7-15 till 1pm.Fishing was abit slow....maybe due to dropping barometer.I landed 3 fish(dropped another 2)and kyle got 4......Olive seems to be the colour of choice.Fish were small but very strong.Water is dirtier than usual after the rain.

Just to elaborate on Rols and Grants conversation about fishing from the shore. The dam is very full. And this makes walking around it quite tough. It would be possible but you would spend more time walking that fishing. When it was lower you could walk along the sides, now you would have to bundu bash thru the trees

I also picked up a net in the shallows...Please PM me if it is yours
stephen is wishing he was fishing location x right now.......

Steven, if you picked the net up near the far inlet, I know whose it is.

    Default Lost & found

I'd love to know what else has been lost in lakies?

    For a start:
    • I've seen a net (in water too deep to retrieve) when the dam was still really low - will still be there fo sure!
    • Toxic Cox's prada sunnies
    • a pair of forceps
    • Net found by agent smith
    • ????

Must be at least one rod & reel somewhere in the depths? Maybe an anchor too?

Anyone else have anything to add?
