A nice, clean, well- mounted fish skeleton.
A kitchy plastic cast that looks nothing like the real fish...
Damn, it would seem one's timing would have to be better... but then who eats lunch at quarter to four?
OK, now comes the bit where you guys are going to wish you hadn't voted when you saw the last two photos!!!!
This is the bit where the DIY assembly guys will be getting interested!
Today: all the bones have been cleaned, labelled and numbered. You now leave them to air for a bit, as they still smell a little. There are around 80 bones in total that will need to be glued...
Tomorrow: assembly begins!
Hi Clarias,
Is the pic above only the bones from the head or from the entire body?
This is a very awsome project.
Regards,
Cornelis
Never mistake knowledge for wisdom.
Hi, these are only the skull bones, including the gill arches.
D. did the body and fins... this involved removing the ribs (only one row in barbel, but most fish have a second row of short floating bones which you get in fish fillets).
We threaded a piece of wire through along the spinal cord to keep all those bones in order before boiling it.
I originally thought building a barbel would be easy because of the uncomplicated body and large, hard head- but man was I proven wrong when the head just fell apart!!
The head roughly halfway... are you guys getting bored of this, i.e. should I just get to the point and post the finished thing?
No, this is quite interesting - keep us up to date.
The only problem with this is waiting for the next update, fascinating stuff, keep up the posts!
OK, have to work this around exams etc. hence the lack of constancy. i'll try keep it to one a day.
Glad you guys are finding it interesting, I sure did!
