I must admit I am a closet Sage fan, they are superb rods - there now I've said it!! As we've harped on ad nauseam, it's just some of the Johnnie-Come-Latelies who namesdrop who put me off them, not the rods! No Forumers in this category by the way!

    Hi Guys

I don't understand the big issue regarding these types of rods.

Is it a practical or an ethical issue?

What is the problem? Are they to light to fish easily, or can you easily loose fish on them because they are so light?

Can you fish with them if there is any kind of breez present?

Are they not very difficult to get hold of(rod&reel), not just for buying but also for maintenance?

None of these quetions were aseked in a sarcastic tone, I would realy just like to know?

I can only imagine wat great fun it must be to actualy hook something on a rod that light

For some it is both, practical, due to the limitations of such a light line, carrying a fly, and ethical, because they do not want to over stress a hooked fish…
Neither of which I have had an issue with…

The are so light, they fish very easily, they cast a dream and because they are so light, they set the hook quickly… I think the fish fighting thing on them is a little bit trickier, larger fish take some skill, but nothing you wont pick up in a day or so… but they are very forgiving, and breaking tippet is almost impossible(except for me, on Boarmans, on a fish of a life time).

I also believe that they are great line control rods, and understanding line dynamics, they do everything effortlessly, from breaking free from the surface tension, to controlling line spray and making great presentations, even in difficult conditions.

Yes, despite what others say, I dragged mine up Gates Head into hurricane Hilda, and it still fished well… admitidly, when the wind is into you, you might consider changing up a line weight or 2, but to answer your question, the wind only affects you when it blows hard… just like any other rod.

No, you can walk into Frontiers tomorrow and buy a full outfit, other shops might need a day or two to ship it from their supplier, or you can order over the net and wait a week or two.

You haven’t fished till you been out with a twin, or even better a triplet. Pun intended
