    Default Snoek Sortie 1

I just had a very interesting discussion with a comercial snoek fisherman with regards to the fact that the comercials always seem to have way more fish per man than the recreationals
His answer was the amount of baits in the water and the amount of boats in an area the comercials always have more lines in the water than men and fish in clusters This "holds the fish" he was saying that 3 boats fishing together can allow them to catch double the amount of fish !!

This must also be true for Fly fishing as although we are sucsesful in getting fish it seems to be sporadic as most of the time we only have one fly in the water for the whole boat

I suggest we Organise a Snoek sortie 1 and get a few Boats out to Yserfontein
and test this theroy with bait /chum/spoon aswell as the fly
and then have braai get together at ysers boat club afterwards

When, where and what time, I am in and ready for action.

I dont mind getting some on spoon...actualy I was planning on getting one on dropshot, now that would be fun as well, still better on the fly.

If we just end up filling one boat we will need to get chum in the water, we saw that the comercial guys keeps a onion bag full off pilchards next to the boat to keep the smell in the water and that keeps the fish below the boat. Their bait gets taken often and when one decide to go and do this its gonna cost as a good couple of bucks for a good quantity of sards.

Anyway letsee who is keen then we plan the logistics. If there is spots availible i will be able to organize some "clients "

    Hey

I'm in with my boat. I can take three (me plus 2 crew) to fish comfortably. Two guys with flies in the water, the other guy working a spoon.

Skippers might want to invest in a hawser if you don't already have one. This will make drifting at the same speed as the current possible, which is crucial for chumming. It's a pleasure to fish under the conditions when Deewy and I went out, but we have to pic the weather right as it's no use going in even a stiff breeze as I discovered a few weeks ago. Let's keep our peepers on windfinder and plan another snoek day. (This coming weekend is out - already planned a weekend at Arniston)

Oh Yeah!! Is there is still space im keen!b (Still have to take my 9# in for repairs )
    Around the steel no tortur'd worm shall twine, No blood of living insect stain my line;
Let me, less cruel, cast feather'd hook, With pliant rod athwart the pebbled brook,
Silent along the mazy margin stray, And with fur-wrought fly delude the prey

Yeah thats the truth as per the commercials. Makes sense too.

I did a snoek/ fly trip with draadkaar the other day we managed 13 snoek in an hour -on rappies!
"X-RAP" got us onto the fish and we just hammered them. Great fun!

As for a Sortie....might be a bit of a schlep to drag ole fat-ass "ON THE FLY" to Ysters. SHe's nearing 3500kg dry and looses breath after 80km/h.
Oceano is closer and the snoek have been around ROBBEN. I have a few commercial mates whom have been averaging 900 fish per boat in 3 hours out of HOUT BAY.

I say go where the numbers are!

Will get an update and let ya know!

I would love to get ole GARAGE onto to snoek.
