Nope, the number of sections shouldn't affect the rod. I would go for more sections to allow for a smaller rod tube. This makes it possible to pack your rod in your rucksack if you need to hike in for some distance. I am very happy with my Vision 6'6" 2wt although I would prefer more pieces (the rod is a 2 piece).
