I voted 30 days and more. If my boxes are full i just buy a new one
Hiya maters,
I've often wondered about my counter parts ie fellow tyers as to how long counted in days it takes to fill your flybox(es),the whole 9 yards i.t.o sizes, colours, from nymphs to streamers to dries, everything!!!!
Assume u have all the materials needed for ur flies and exclude days when u don't tie.So in short, tying days per complete box(es)
I'll get to my main question in a mo.
Cheers

Gerrit, good question. It has taken me nearly 6 months to toss out the bought flies and substitute with my own.
Your question however is relative. How big is the flybox
I know a f/f who does not use flyboxes, but Checkers Bags, and they are FULL
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

If you have a boxes for your dries, a. mayflies, b. caddis, c. terrestrials
nymphs a. czech nymps, b normal nymphs c soft hackle.
Streamers
Then it depends on the size of the box.
It also depends on the time of the year.
If I have any trips planned. etc etc
You have asked too difficult question for me to answer, I will pass on this one.

Nymphing, adds depth to your fly fishing.
Nymphing, is fly fishing in another dimension
I guess where I'm going with this is the theme of production tying.AK Best reckons that if u tie more than one fly at a time ur a production tyer.
So,my next question is how do u go about ur tying in getting the work done?
Have u got a tying schedule?
If yes,how many flies do u tie per session on average?
Are you tying enough flies out of season to last you the whole fishing season?
Or,
Are you tying enough flies to start the fishing season with and as u run out of flies u just top it up to your initial start up quantity?
Feel free to add any or more factors/tips that u follow to get that full quota of flies.
Cheers

When I get time to sit and tie, I decide what I'll tie for that period of time. More time, more "complicated" pattern, less time, less "complicated" pattern.
I tie bunches of 3 flies per pattern (dunno why, guess I read it somewhere - it stuck)
With family taken 1st place nowadays, I tie when I need to.
I used to replace what I used/lost on the river when I got back home, that worked very well for me.

I also make sure that I tie patterns that work for me and for the streams I fish. I don't waste too much time coming up with "new" flies/patterns, unless I have some time to play around.
Gerrit, maybe run a parrallel thread to this one: FlyBox Contents
