I carry 2 of Explorer's new fly boxes with the "page" in the middle. It's the larger one, takes about 250 flies I think.

I don't have a box for dries/emergers/nymphs, as this only makes for more rummaging in my pack - I like to have a variety at hand in each box.

I have 3 boxes, 1. with big fluffy flies. 2. Drys and Nymphs 3. One with all the flies i caught fish with,which at the moment is full of white flies

I carry two small boxes.

I like to set them up with 4 different three-fly-rig variations each: Meaning there are four rows of flies in each box of which each row consist of a top fly, dropper and point fly of different variation and colour.

If I have caught nothing with my first 3-fly-choice in the first 40 mins I change the whole set-up to the second row etc. etc.
I will take note on which fly I catch fish and start changing my rig accordingly.


In the other box - I carry a couple of extra point flies, about 4 dry flies, two flies for barble and 2 MSP's. I complete this box with what roughly resembles the gorries I find under a rock in the river before I start my day's fishing. Upons arriving at a venue, I light up, get a beer and walk to the river to investigate what these flies should be.

The rest stays in the car for emergency purposes.

Please note that this basically only applies to nice sunny summer days on the Vaal.

Korrie, with exception of very few pattern, the patterns in my box are all easy to tie, and I can replace them fairly quickly. The more involved pattern for some reason I don't lose as much

when it comes to Soft hackles, there is not fly that is easier to tie. And if I had to choose 1 fly to fish for life or death, it would be a soft hackle.
You can fish it as a dry, as a trapped dry in the surface film, as a nymph, as an emerging nymph, as pin fry, as a spent spinner.

I carry five boxes in my overloaded vest - far too many.

In one box is about 150 nymphs - mainly tied for the highly barren trip to Douglas. The flies look good, and I still use them for PROPER fly fishing at times (for fish with a caudal fin!)

The second box contains PROPER (trout) nymphs and a selection of dry flies. These are my medium sized nymphs (the biggest in this box is about a #10, smallest a #14 usually). The dries are my bigger dries, together with a few wierd things like snails, etc. Also in here are lots of soft hackles.

The third box has BIG stuff ... Woolly Buggers, Cats Whiskers, Muddlers, Marabou Streamers - all ugly as H*ll!!! but they do catch fish on occasions. And of course a selection of various sizes of Mrs Simpson and Walkers and Hammils Killers!

Fourth box .. lots of small nymphs and soft hackles etc (#16 and smaller)

Fifth box - dries smaller than #16

of course they get mixed up while I am out fishing!!!

As of last night I have 49 flies, one box 1/3 full.

5 big black marabou flies of my own design that work verry well, I just need to land one of the tug boats that steal them from me.

5 light brown stone fly nymphs some beaded #14 # 16

5 of Sean Mills's carp maggots #10
5 variation on the white death ( i say veration due to the lack of tying skills)#12

10 bought wooly buggers in red and black (why i bought the red ones i still do not know)

The rest are all sort of nymph imitations, can you belive i spent a conciderable time the other night trying to figure out where do you get the long hairs form a hares ear...... did a youtune and to my total digust found that the name hares ear is misleading and actually uses gard hairs form the mask...

If this was ment as a serous thread sorry.
