Thumbs up Infinity rods are larney

    Hello gents,

I met with Gary today and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to cast the new Infinity rods. (I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds by writing this :P)

My first impression was "What a pretty rod" I feel sorry for it already, but that is just me, rods to me are tools and they end up taking a beating in the long run. Bearing in mind these ones were still prototypes and bearing in mind that I am no expert, the finishing and craftsmanship applied in the manufacture of these rods look first rate to me. Gorgeous blank, rich coloured fittings, reel seat and trim. LARNEY!

I played with the 4WT, 5WT and 6WT variants. As most of you know, my preference is for fast tip actioned rods over medium paced rods and the Infinity are definately not fast actioned but what a comfortable cast. It loads nicely over short distances and throwing a full line with very little effort, without hauling, is dead easy. I think a day of Trooting long lines with these baies will be great fun and not tiring in the least. I was also pleasantly impressed with the benefits to accuracy and softer presentation these medium paced rods bring to the table (bearing in mind we were 'fishing' in a parking lot)

For my money they'd have application as stillwater troot rods in the weights I tested but I'd love to hear what the Cape stream guys have to say about these rods in the lighter weights like the 3WT and down. I'd definately like to spend time casting dry flies to SM on these.

Let me put it to you this way ... move on over SAGE, Orvis and the other 'premium' rods. These rods are larney, very, very larney.

I have played around and fished with some of the models.
I will not rate them as medium action. In my opinion, medium fast.
For the Cape Streams, I have found them to be super rods. The 10" gives you the reach to fish pockets with a dry fly, or when nymphing, it gives you the extra reach without mending, to prevent the drag.
This is a very beautiful rod, that will convert a lot of people.

    Hi Korrie,

Ja, I only classify rods as 'fast', 'medium' or 'limp dick' It's like when is medium fast more of a fast medium fast than a slow medium fast, gets too confusing after a while.

It's the same with music, its it now R&B, Popping & Locking, HIP-Hop, Kwaito, Skeeto, Pantsula ? It all sounds like noise to me

I should have said I like super fast rods, not fast rods. I agree with you though that the Infinity is definitely more medium fast than just medium, very pleasant cast really though the rods does bend more than I am used to.

I agree, very pretty rod ... to me it looked on par or better than every SAGE, Orvis or whatever I have ever held in my hands. I was impressed. I think guys who like the TFO Finesse series will absolutely love these rods.

We are hoping that we will be in the R2500-3000.00 retail range for the series depending on exchange rates. It will only be a limited range iniatially. A10' 3wt aimed at the cape market and then a 9'4,9'5, 9'6. Depending on sales we will look into 10' 5 or 6's at a later stage.
i'm hoping to go fishing this weekend, If so i'l let you know where and maybe we can meet and throw a line. most likley on sunday.

Hi Gary, just a comment about your statement regarding Cape market. You need to realise that the number of guys in the cape that have explored the advantages of a longer rod, and are actively fishing them, are possibly less than half a dozen. Most of the guys are far more comfortable with their "under 9 foot rods", which is fine, as these become a more beneral tool which can still be applied with the changing condidtions during a days fishing.A 10 foot rod for the streams is a rather specialised tool, for certain applications, and definatly has its drawbacks in some conditions. having said all this, there is one thing that all long rodders on the streams have to concede. It takes time and perseverance to realise the advantages of a long rod, and I fear that many guys are not going to have the patience to "discover" the strong points, and niether will they want to persevere with the techniques that this rod will excell in.
So if you are planning to target it to the cape streams market, be prepared to sell precious few.
