Default Polar fibre baitfish, smelt, fingerling etc

This baitfish, smelt, glassy, fingerling is tied from Polar fibre.
It is quick almost one material fly.
The polar fibre is a tapered material which stays firm and holds it shape in the water, elimanating the pulsating effect. So your baitfish will hold its fish shape.
Polar fibre comes in various color, So you can tie a sand goby from the light olive etc.

It works very well in fresh water where there are lots of small fish. Very good for trout feeding on Stickle backs type of fish etc

    Hook: Hanak H200 BL
    Thread: White
    3 strands of Crystal Flash
    Fishient Polar Fibre

Wrapp thread onto hook shank and tie in Crystal Flash.
Stop a third to half way from hook eye.
Cut about a pencil thickness of polar fibre, remove the "underfur".
You will be left with about a third of a thickness of what you cut of.
Tie the Polar fibre in with the thinnest section forward.
Wrap thread forward to the hook eye.
Fold polar fibre back over wrapped section.
Make a couple of wraps in front of bend back polar fibre and tie off.

I now apply a couple of drops of head cement onto the front bend back section. This helps to hold the fibre in place, while I mix the epoxy and stick the eyes on.
    Hold in place till dry.
Use permanent markers to color to choice.

    Enjoy tying with artificial materials.

Excellent, almost like a bullet head without the tying down of the bullet.

The epoxy solves this quite nicely.

    HI Korrie,

Nice easy baitfish pattern. Got my clips today, so will try your spinning tips.
One could also use different materials instead of marker pens and get the same look.

As mentioned in one reply, the colors are too many
By using different colors you dont need marker pens. Or by blending colors you can create different shades. Or blending different products.
Since I started tying with the Fishient products, I have found such inspiration.
    So many possibilities.
Everytime I sit behind the vice, I have another idea. Maybe someone on the other side of the world have done it as well. I don't know.
I have about another 20 SBS things that I do, that will posted some time or the other.

Go and sit behind your vice and play with the materials and colors. You will be amazed with the different ideas you come up with.

    Enjoy

Just found some good looking synthetic baitfish patterns in a mag. Mixing materials only, no markers, nice sparsely tied patterns. Hell, soon my s/water collection gonna be good.

    Dave,
Which time of the year is the best to fish that area of the coast where you live?
I want to do a week trip fishing estuaries and sea along that part?
And try out all the s/water flies

    HI Korrie,

Anytime from september onwards, but the really good months from november to april. Febuary is also very good with the swimming prawns arrival.

    Thanks
Deewy and I are planning a trip. will see what time scale fits him best.

Maybe you can adapt my Artificial prawn to match the swimming prawns. Then we can teach those fish a lesson or two.

All of these flies are absolutely awesome Korrie. Thank you for taking the time to post them. They have opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. Gonna be tying like a demon.
