Tigerfish venues

Hi All

Any suggestions (from your own personal experience) for tiger venues with the following criteria:

Within 2000km from Jhb, ie Zambezi or south
Not in Zim (for now)
Under R1000 pppn (this is an upper limit - not a target!)
Don't mind camping, but would prefer chalets with meals included so that we can focus on fishing but no need for luxury
MUST cater for FF - otherwise what's the point?

Check the adds in bothf/f magazines as well as Stywelyne, ther are numerous venues/operations advertised.

Maybe search for a lodge at Jozini, some of them cater for FF... I know Shayamanzi houseboats does...

I can definetly recommend Pongola Game Reserve.
They are situated on Jozini dam.
I have taken numerous fly fishing tours to the one camp, Nkwazi.
The one guide, Maxwell, is very knowledgable, and I always ask for him, as a guide, to help with the less experienced fly fishers. When the groups are large.
The have various camps with different price ranges.
From self catering to full board and lodging.
They also have a fleet of boats that you can rent.

I have been to Kalizo lodge in the Caprivi strip on the banks of the Zambezi river. Fishing have been good and their guides are knowledgeable. You have the option to camp or to stay in the lodge at what seem to be a fair rate at the time. Access to the lodge can be a problem in the rainy season, but transfers from Kathima to the lodge can be arranged on the river.

Get your hands on the zim fishing mag at your local news agent - I think its called "zimbabwe fisherman" or something along those lines. They sell them all over the place amazingly and they knock seven shades of sh1t out of our local stywe lyne... This month has an article on Tigers in the runde (zim) but there are plenty of adds in the back of the magazine which should help.

What time of year do you want to go - makes a big difference!

I have, fish are mostly on the small side, but lots of them. Did not stay at that camp, they have 2 camps where you can stay, one outside Makuya Park and the other one inside the Park. Inside Camp is better, closer to the river. Also need a 4X4 to reach better fishable spots...

just a note: as much as Zim is on turmoil, traveling there is pretty safe, however you need to be sure to have enough fuel, that puts you in a less safe position(might get robbed for the fuel), but that said, they will rob you of the fuel but not shoot, attack, kill, rape, plunder to get the fuel. The people there are not violent, just their ruling party.
