Aheemmm, seems like you have never joined an Official Vaal outing before.
There are those that fish, those that just enjoy meeting with other forumers, those that guide NEWBYS ( well done OMR ), and those who just wamt a pleasant day out of the rat race,

The fishy pics are kept : TOP SECRET : lest someone find out we were fisihing at Eastco

There are no fishy pics because there were no fishies caught.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

Yip was great to put faces to the names, really enjoyable, personally I gained a lot. I am already looking forward to the next one.

Chris my parents took a photo of that moth I told you about will try and post it on the tread or email it to you. (no 3G so the connection is slow, otherwise I will send it when I am back home). Thanks again for the hooks and that putty already tied a control fly for tomorrow. I tied it without setting it first, just wound some thread around it, actually helped give it some shape. (Will send you a photo)

Hoping that the fish are more active for the next few days.

    Dear Mike,

Thanks, great meeting you and your son and daughter. I'm glad they're catching fish! I hope your neighbours are parking their cars correctly and that your other mates stop their concertina-playing at 5 sharp every afternoon!

I also found that putty can be shaped with the tying thread. If you then douse it with ice-cold water it does harden the putty a bit.

The pic of that snake gives me the shivers! Yes, it is a rhomcic night adder which is 'mildly venomous' - that's what the book says anyway! I just saw coincidentally looking thru the Oct 2007 Yellowsonfly report they also have a pic of this snake.

The moth is a Mopane Moth, a type of emperor moth. The locals eat them. Think I'd rather stick to samp and pap!

Cheers, enjoy your last few days - the weather should hold out!

PS - Herman's not strictly right about no fish. My two newbies each caught their first ever yellows. The one was about 1.1 kg on a PTN. The other, OK it was accidentally foul-hooked in the gills was 'considerably smaller'! The guy who caught his first ever river fish/yellow (the big one) could only keep muttering 'Awesome' with a grin like a Cheshire cat. It was great to see!
There were stacks of what are commonly called mustard and green caddis pupae also baetis and damsel nymphs. There were lots of adults especially the large white caddis hatching around mid-morning. Some yellows were later mopping up the 'spent' adults in the slow tail-end bits of water.

    Thanks Herman!

No wonder the fish were scared to take our flies!

    Default Urgent - car keys

Someone has left their Toyota car keys in my car. I think it was from the 20 December Vaal trip, as the last two trips I've travelled with Rory in his car

Please PM me and I can arrange to deliver them or to meet up and hand them over?

    Cheers, Chris
