Your caddis flies are very , very good. ( Hanak hooks ? )

With the nymphs I would make the tail sparser ( less fibres) and have another look at the proportions of the whole fly.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

Look at the Flytying threads as well as Favoured Flies and Techniques ( all volumes.)
When I started tying I got " Flytying for Beginners" by Peter Gathercole, available from Craig at www.netbooks.co.za.
When I,m grown up I will get the " Flytyer's Bible" from the same author. My buddy has one and what a brilliant guide to tying.

    Hi Andrew,

Really great for a newby fly tier. Few things that might help.

    - Start your thread 2mm behind the eye of the hook. The fly should be finished off when you reach this point, preventing clogging of the hook eye and you can form a neat thread head.
    - Taper the abdomen (nymphs) by using thread (multi strand like UTC).

You will tie great flies sooner than you think.

    Cheers,

    Philip

Nice flies, I don't think you need sparser tails on your nymphs. I prefer them nice and thick and suggestive maybe a touch shorter. You'll get a feel for it as you experiment with different materials and size flies.

As you step down the size of the fly it's nice to use thinner tailing material like paintbrush fibres or micro fibbets. It's also about personal preference. If you fish a fly with confidence you will catch fish.

    All of those will work.

Well done. I still believe I haven't tied a fly worthy enough of being posted on the forum so good on you.
Took all the goods out last night at 19h00, to tie some elk hair caddis, and packed it all away again at 22h00 without having tied a single fly. KIDS and fly tying don't go together

Great looking flies. I've just pulled my own kit out the cupboard and am trying to get into it again.

    Thanks for the extra inspiration.
