    beefy, we where not using wire, just a short bite tippet made of 20kg mono, its quite thick so it can take quite a beating.

    what myself and denton forgot to mention was that that rod was a virgin, this was its first fishing trip with it, he still had the plastic on the cork. So it wasn't damaged beforehand.

    well he isn't to worried, he is just glad it broke on a fish.

    Great pics of the snoek, thanks. I seriously thought for a nano-second when I saw the photo of the front bit of the snapped rod being hauled up, 'Gee, that is a SERIOUS piece of lead core line'! As you say bust on a fish, not so bad if it has to get bust!

    could easily be over 4kg. we never measured it but held By its tail at my middle its nose was on the ground...so close to a meter.

    according to ORI Calc a 85 cm snoek is 5.9 Kg
    and a 90 cm 7 kgs

    how long would you say those fish where? i estimate close to a meter if not over
