A couple of reports of 50cm bass being caught. We need a big bass cull day. There is a good thread about it on the CPS facebook site.

Albe and Jiri had 2 bass come of at the net which was probably 50cm.
At last year Nationals I got a 38cm measured.

    Ya might be....
Theres an investigative expedition to Larkies tomorrow , by a few of the CPS committee, to take a look and decide what to do about it. One of the proposals is a weekend of "bass blitzing".
Remember a few years ago we saw all those fry in the inlet, and we thought that the trout were spawning???....well.. now we know, it was bass that were spawning.

Hectic - not sure you can fish them out though.

Hi Grant, there might be a way of controlling them though, but its debateable as to how practical it would be, but here's a thought process.....,
Perhaps the CPS's stocking policy, of stocking several thousand 10cm trout, has played into the hands of the bass, by giving them fodder, whereas larger trout might not be so easy for the bass to eat, but rather served to keep the bass controlled to an extent. I think that the trout controlled the bass for a long time, but at some point, a tipping point was reached, and now they are out of control, and a difficult situation has developed.
Perhaps if, during the hot months the bass are aggressively targeted by anglers, we might make a sizeable dent, but who knows? My only thought is that big trout will eat the small bass, so if we catch as many big bass as possible, we might be in business to an extent.

Think when the water heats up the bass goes to top of the food chain. When they get to the top, they stay at the top. Even by catching and taking out the big ones, they will keep on to outbreed the other fish species and a 10cm trout will be perfect eating size even for a small bass.
