I have standardised on Tiemco hooks for my Czech Nymphs - TMC2457.
Other decent hooks are the Knapek Grub hooks (not available locally YET ).

    Hi Gary,

What hooks do you use for those tiny nymphs you fished on the Smalblaar ? Is it also the 2457 ?

    Thanks,
    Darryl

    Default Grip Hooks (for SALE?)

Grips are OK - I did have a problem a year or so ago with some #14 Grip scuds breaking (2 boxes) - obviously overtempered.

Since I have standardised on TMC (and Gamakatsu's) - I have hundreds of Grip hooks - scuds & nymphs/wet flies which I will never use again for sale.
Anyone interested in MOST/the LOT- send me a PM and I will make up a list (please no " do you have 25 of Grip model xxxx", I would want to move the BULK of the hooks at once)

Actually, I have a LOT of flytying material (over and above hooks) which I will never use again that I am happy to trade/sell. When I buy, I tend to buy in bulk. When my opinions/styles change, I then have to dispose of that which as per my current thinking is of no use...

For RIVER TROUT (smaller fish, less powerful than SM or DAM trout), I use TMC 2487BL's (same hook shape, but FINE wire rather than HEAVY wire, and Barbless out of the box). NOTE - This only applies to the BH flies - I do not fish BH mayflies on the Vaal.

I keep my VAAL nymphs very separate from my TROUT STREAM nymphs.

Check out the Partridge Czech Nymph hooks. They are strong with a good shape and an interesting point.

Yeah I have some of those, I tie brassies on them. They work pretty well actually, had no hassles as yet.
