    Default Strange but true

    I've been thinking...
I saw a DVD on fly fishing for yellows by a very well known all round fishermen. It was very amusing how this pro managed to foul hook his first fish and then retreated to the spawn beds amongst the uninformed/new guys to fish for "feeding" fish that one can see paying in the shallows.
.... and then I was thinking, what is the impact on the environment with all the uninformed/new fly fisherman practicing what the pro has shown them.

O another occasion I was fishing the Orange River, also with a renowned fly fisherman in that region. Soon I was told about the great results one achieves through fishing the spawn beds. Next I was asked to keep the yellows that I catch so that it could be fed to German tourists as Orange River cuisine!!!

....... and then I was thinking some more, so what do you guys think? I for one feel this kind of okes should be kept from spreading the word, WRONG! Or am I being a b!tch about this?

    Hi Ferdie...
I, for one, like to take a magazine to the loo with me for just the same reason... "I was thinking" and "then I was thinking some more"...
Some tips: Keep it in untill you really have to go to the toilet, that way you don't spend too much time there thinking.
    A magazine really works!
Take a laxitive a few hours before your regular timing. Being constipated does'nt help the whole thing much.

    Sorry mate... coulden't help myself.

Seriously...If it was a guy who knows better, or, has claimed to be a conservationist oak, then I say... Spill the beans, post his name!!!
If he doesent know any better... Help him right...
(Don't like the "Ja broer" thing much!!!)

    Cheers,

    Clint

I think that it has nothing to do with the status a person holds wrt the fishing title. (Pro /novice / etc).
These guys own business's, whether they are TV shows, guiding business's or whatever, its intention is to make money!
Lemme ask you this, would you watch a TV program where they caught 0 fish? Or, would you use the services of a guide who could put you into more fish than his competition?

The solution to any problem -- work, love, money, whatever -- is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

    Dizzy...

You right, has nothing to do with status... Show presenter and a Guide...
Makes it even worse... I think it's "SWAK" any which way...

Like the old saying goes – lead by example. So I suppose we can all fish to spawning fish then. Don’t know Ferdie I tend to agree with you, we still have a long way to get everyone (especially the new guys with this seasons Vaal boom who don’t necessarily have access to published media/info like the rest of us) to understand the importance of looking after the environment. Think about it -> who are you going to believe – a “not known” fly fisher on the vaal warning you about the threat to yellows or some pro’s DVD which you actually pay’ed money for to teach you after your local Fly Store guy told you to buy it and do exactly what he does cause he is “the best”….

Along with the strange but true theme.
I heard of people that "tie" a small piece of steak to there fly when fishing for yellows, Also witnessed the dipping of fly in essence when hunting trout,
...Might as well just bait fish then.

Why tie when you can catch and freeze...
I have purchased a flying ant immitation, look amongst the trout flies, (if i remember correct they where hairy fairy flies). I have not tried them yet so dont know the effectiveness, but then i can't drive past a fishing shop without buying some flies or something, funny thing is when I get to the water I either tie a GRHE or a flashback nymph whether yellow or trout fishing. I just have that preferance, so now I have numerous packs of flies that look good in the store, but never come out at the water, Is this only me that has this problem?
