No I'm a rod builder - I'm still firing my blanks.

And thinking of Korrie the lifesaver wearing grey-tinted designer glasses and undersized Speedos at Camps Bay.

Back then I knew squat about technical jargon and what not.Looking back now and with the knowledge and experience gained of fishing this rod for 2.5 years I will buy it time and time again.

    I want a mofo backbone.
Pull big fish and land them fast.
Even with it's stiffness the tip is quite flexible for subtle takes.

This my go to summer nymphing rod.Hey no one can fault me for my preference can they?

What is very typical of the SA flyfishers, and as you mentioned, we want rods with backbone. We want to do the work, we want to haul the fish in and land it.
With a slightly softer rod you can let the rod do all the work and still land the fish in no time, with less effort.
But you must come to the Cape, and come and experience the gentle art of catching trout on a clean mountain stream, where you don't have to haul them in.

Mostly because them Troots are too frikken small to put a bend in the rod.

(Yes I'm waiting for mario to post a pic of his 000 bent in half on that one stream )

Gerrit, I remember that yes, glad I inspired you to such good work ... looking forward to feeling how much stiffer your 10' is than my 10'

Not really, their EGO's would keep them at 2 arm lengths apart.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

The 10ft 6wt Bomber is used for dam/stillwater fishing - it is a little fast to be an ideal SM rod.
The 10ft 6wt Magnum covers both rolls - I use it as a backup for the 5wt on SM (or in FAST, heavy water), and as a backup stillwater rod for the Bomber.

I would suggest the 10ft 5wt Magnum (the 10ft 5wt Bomber MAY be too fast/stiff as an ideal SM rod).
    Since I can't fish both my 10' 5-wt Magnum's at the same time - I'm parting with one .
Anyone interested can drop me a message.
