very nice.i have no experience with largies.my only suggestion would be to trim the bottom on an angle to get a better taper.definately a species a would want to target.
Hey Chaps
I thought I would try hand at tying a nice baitfish imitation for some winter largies...
so I tied a black and olive pattern like the ones in the new TCFF.
I used the following materials:
Grey Mirror Image fibres
Black Mirror Image fibres
Olive craft fur
Grey/blue DNA flash
Gold angel hair
Black Crystal flash
Black Brush for the head
20LB Line for Weed gaurd
Yellow dumbells eyes
I reckon, not bad for a 1st attempt...what do you guys in the know "scheme"?

Overall not bad, interresting colour combinations.
I'd make the tail shorter.
What size stinger and dumbells are those ?

Hi, what flies can one buy for largies. Never targeted them. Can someone please suggest a few by name.
Specialist flies such as SF baitfish patterns, floating deerhair patterns etc can be purchased at most reputable fly shops. Well tied wooly buggers and zonkers in black and olive do the job pretty well though and the most important point to remember when targetting largies isnt the fly... A well presented fly, with a good profile, thrown in the right spot will do the job 99% of the time.
I might be mistaken but some of the top guides still advocate tying on on a big black wooly bugger when you arent sure exactly what to throw.
Check your knots!
Thank you for the advice. In what area of the vaal will you find largies{most popular area} Keep well
