Default World Fly Fishing Champs 2008 - New Zealand

    Hi Guys

I decided to start the thread here as there will be a lot more discussion on the topic before the event is over. Apart from the Flytalk side of things, there is an opportunity for some to benefit from the early warning. If anybody is serious about coming out I would be happy to use my contact to secure some accommodation etc. Let me know if their is anything I can do.

Pierre, we will talk on pm about the business side.

    Good morning Mike

You mean the 2008 competition in March 2008?

This year we will be fishing in Finland during June. The fishing should be great and I am really looking forward to the trip.

How far away from Auckland will the 2008 event be staged?

    Cheers
    MC

    Hi MC

oops! Typo. Pierre wont you change the heading as it wont edit.

Taumarunui is about four hours drive from Auckland. It is an area they call the King country, on the west side. Type the name into the search function of Google and it will show you. You need to zoom in pretty close or you will miss it.

I have attached a link to the town in Google earth.(I hope it is attached) It is very well known for being the confluence of the two rivers you see on the map.

    Hi
I am glad to see you are booking your spot for that. Any bold predictions on who else will be joining you. I would be interested on your take on that.

    Good morning there.

    This is an interesting question.

The only thing that I can really say with a fair amount of certainty is that Pieter vd Westhuisen will not take part. This is his last year.

It is very appropriate that the next nationals will be held down here on the Cape Streams as this is possibly the closest that we can get to NZ fishing. I therefore believe that the results of this year's nationals should form the basis of selecting the team. Experience on the Vaal is simply not going to be of any use in NZ. It will be very interesting to see how you Vaalies perform down here, but our fishing will cook in October and it is undoubtedly going to be the best event ever.

    Cheers

    Hi there Devlin

They will take place during the week of 20 October 2007. We will fish at Lakensvlei, Elandspad and Smallblaar.

There will be a maximum of eight teams and we will stay at Merwede Lodge for the event.

    Cheers

I think you have a good point there , there is a lack of experience amongst us as far as that goes but there is also anglers who have an aptitude towards learning because they have the basic skills, but yes it will be interesting.
I am sure your guys will do well.
