Hi All,
I've just returned from Barkly East (Kraai River), where I've had the BEST river fly fishing to date. The rivers like the Sterkspruit & Bokspruit were running very low (poor rainfall) so we opted to fish certain areas of the Kraai river. Well we were NOT DISAPOINTED. BIG SM YELLOWS & BIG RAINBOW TROUT & I'm not joking. (SM Yellow Size 45cm to 65cm & Rainbow Trout Size 30cm to 45cm) ALL WILD & in GREAT condition.
Due to the poor rainfall the Kraai River was easy accessible in areas which under normal circumstances would not be fishable & difficult to get to. Look the fishing was not easy & once you spooked (a pool or a run) the fish went into hiding so your first cast counted alot.
We had 2 guys with us that had never fly fished before & they caught fish on there first outing that you can only dream of.
I must be honest & say that we fished areas that are "PRIVATELY OWNED" so very little fishing has taken place in those areas.
To say it was AWESOME is an understatement.
Now that I'm back at work (damn), I wish it would rain in those areas as the farmers are really struggling with the draught.
I will post pics shortly - be patient.
