Gazza it's an extra-long shank hook I bent myself, although there are Eagle Claw 60 degree jig hooks that are even better for the job. I used a bit of silicone in the body ahead of the hook bend to mimimise tail wrap. Materials are a bit of flash and various colours of DNA fiber (I saw excellent SA-made equivalents - check out Eikendal fly-talk shop).

William......do u weight it?or just fish it on the intermediate?

Stephen, good question, that particular fly has a little strip of solder wire bound onto the hook shank to form a lightly weighted "keel".

I was fishing floating lines for those conditions.

Personally I like floaters more when the water is not choppy - because quick snatch and reposition is easier. And I find them more effective when the fish are focussed on/near the surface - sometimes our baitfish actually try to hide in the suface film when exposed in deep water. At those times when the fly sinks a bit too deep it gets no hits - the fish are all paying attention upwards.

If there is a lot of wind chop >> intermediate is way better to get beneath and be "tighter" to fly when it gets hit.
