what will you be using it for?
Hi Guys,
im looking at buying a gps. the unit must be reletively light as i want to hike with it, robust and waterproof.
ive narrowed my choices down to these four:
- garmin 62s
- garmin dakota 20
- garmin oregon 450
- garmin oregon 550
Has anyone had any experience with these units ? if so please let me know what you think is best ... i used to have a 60c ... but it disappeared one day ... and i must say the new 62s looks good ... but is so much bigger than the other units here....
the dakoto is tiny and feel awesome but im a bit worried about the screen size when i use it in the vehicle.
any info will be greatly appreciated

Hi Craig,

Hi
I have a Colorado 300, (it has since been replaced by the 450 and 550 I believe) and I am very happy with it. It does 90% of what I want and it does it 90% as effective as I want it done. For your purposes it sounds like a Colorado should do the trick.
You will never get a GPS to do everything you want. Garmin won't make it, otherwise they would only ever sell one model.
So you need to live with the limitations (such as the small screen), or buy 2 or 3 units, one for the car, one for fishing, one for hiking etc.
For my money the Oregon is as multi purpose as you are likely to get.
Whatever you decide, make sure it is a Garmin.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
thanks for the advice .. Jean...
I must say i have narrowed it down to the dakota 20 and the oregon 450 .....for now..
your colorado screen size is the same as the oregon if i recall correctly...... maybe the 450 would be a better buy then .... seeing that it would be a little bit better for visibility in the car.
But i have to agree on your reasoning on one unit that does it all..
thanks again!
