errr...dohhhh...cos it was a world record that I have been after for 5 years - the first 12 bust me off - this one did not.

    Deal with it.

Gents I'm the biggest bunny higher out there
I hate pictures of dead fish

That being said fishing is a blood sport if you partake it's inevitable that fish die

And to claim a World record the fish has to be killed and weighed
This is a reality until very recently all the thousands of fish in the igfa records are dead

I don't think attacking the poster is going to help much (although not posting DFP will help )Edit: (lose the deal with it attitude too)

If you eat fish you have just as much blood on your hands

haha...guys i think you'll find it was killed because its not too easy to measure and weigh a live Mako (that will take a bite out of whatever it can) to IGFA standards. The list of requirements is almost an A4 page long. Congrads on the fish. Cant be easy landing one on 20lb.

I remember this debate about a black marlin that was killed off Cape Bowling Green on sexyloops... I forget the guys name now but he had spent over a million dollars chasing that record. And if you compared the market rate per pound of flesh for the animal (a few dollars)... he had effectively paid something like 5000 dollars per pound for the fish he killed.

If this still angers you guys... Ill find the website now but my company dealt with one of the fishing companies thats based at the waterfront. Out of curiosity I went to the website and they list by-catch as it can be purchased and they specify exactly what its composed of..... You'll find a few tons of Mako per month. And thats off 6 trawlers in a single area.

I like the idea of the "get marlin off the menu" campaign. I think thats more effective. Recreational anglers killing fish are a drop in the ocean compared to what commercials take.

sorry for hijacking the thread MC

-and apologies for the hostility Igfafly ... Im sure the guys on here do appreciate your input. We dont have too many bluewater specialists.

a question- Why the billy pate?

yep damage is on the money - they are damn good, basic and effective.

I have since got some support from Tibor and am trying a Pacific out this winter...wouldnt mind some of the flies pictured on this thread for those - they look damn good and a lot better than mine - I like the minimal use of material so they are lightish but still seem to creat a very nice profile and image of a fish - nice work.

on the bunny hugging thing - mate I chase marlin, makos and tuna. Killed this mako, dropped heaps, so far only one lure caught marlin has come abourd cos it was hooked down in the gills - we must have caught 50 or 60 marlin over the last 5 years or so - our impact is bugger all

on igfa - there is now the length categroy of records open - you dont have to kill the fish - but unlike some makos are not user friendly !!!!!!

only true measure is when it is on the scales - so unless matey boy above wants to go tell all the doyens of the sport what knob heads they are for claiming recoirds perhaps things should be seen in perspective.

have a good winter - we will - go the sards - miss the coast in July / Aug so much

eating fish (and therefore also having blood on your hands) is not the same than killing something because its a record and you have spend money and time pursuing it.
and its not abou the impact on the populations either.
each to his own, but I am against it, and the mentality that goes with it, and will say so in support of the first guy who asked the question why it was killed.

Adriaan - if yuo fish you inevitably kill fish - tell me some of the fish you catch are not eaten or that the ones released have a 100% survival rate and I can assure you you are getting your intakes and outputs confused !

For the record this fish was eaten - mako is very nice, either as steaks or kebabs on the braai

No interest to engage in pointless arguments - rather see some more of these nice flies being tied - how about some tubes on big tandem rigs ????

    Igfafly

What's your real name? It's weird calling somebody "Igfafly".

The big tandem tubes are last on my list but they'll be ready in a week or so.

Where in NSW are you based? Sydney.....?

    Cheers
    MC
