A friend of mine has a house there, so we go skiing often.
They sprayed the hyacinth in December/January. Mostly gone now!
As far as I know, Bilharizia is "hosted" by snails?
I don’t think it’s really possible to get rid of the Bilharzia, I think you are referring to the water hyacinth. They were going to spray the dam with a pestiside, but that means all hyacinth will rot in the water. Even with the hyacinth gone, I would till be pretty scared of that water, I once saw game that had died from drinking water out of that dam and Tiger Tim got pretty ill from fishing that dam.
I think there may be an article regarding Roodeplaat in this month or last months BASS mag, remember seeing something while paging through it in Terry’s shop.
Fly-fishing surpasses the need to actually catch a fish, it becomes a mindset, and with time, an obsession.
Lord, grant that I may catch a fish so big that even I,
When speaking afterwards,
May have no need to lie.

The solution to any problem -- work, love, money, whatever -- is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach
I agree with the comments on skin cancer. I fish in a long sleeved (saltwater designed shirt) at all times & also load the sunblock, especially after having my lips burn't to cinders after one outing on the Vaal.
Also got BH as a kid, from a South Coast river at Margate & have had no problems since, yes Skin cancer is something that stays with you once you have it.
Born to fish, forced to work
Howzit,
Talking about cancer and all , Capestorm's Zanzibar shirt offers UV 50 protection, it is nice and cool ( 70% nylon / 30% cotton) , on the keep out the water side -my lovely wife made my stealht breathable waders into pants, she cutt of the John Boy part( top) and fitted the wader with a seam for a belt. This take care of most of the water problems, just don't fall over now.
cheers,
Ricko
