    Some mates of mine have caught fish over 6kg while going for largemouth yellows. Along comes this massive SM and eats the largie flies. That was mostly in the Vaal.

    That is Paul Fick and it is the Wilge River He has caught some monster largies there too. Have seen one of his of 9.5 kg.

    Mine's 3.8kg's, but I can count the number of SM yellows I've caught over 3kg's in almost 10 years of fishing the vaal on one hand. Short line nymphing rapids and glides definitely isnt the best tactic to catch the lunkers

    That fish was actually 6.3kg and not 6kg.

    I've heard of a 8kg female taken on fly 3 or 4 years ago. (Reputable source btw)

    I got a 5.95kg at Wag 'n Bietjie during a club competition in '06.
    I've caught some nice ones at Ben Joe(not the farm above) too.
