THE AFRICAN FLY ANGLER
If you're fly fishing as though you are 'in a contest', and the only objective is to 'catch fish' - you are missing the point .... and that is disappointing
"Fly fishing is for those who hold that the fun in the race of life is in the running, not just the winning, that existence is its own justification, that a day spent in a stream or a pond with a goal in mind is a joy even if the goal is not achieved."
~by Jon Margolis and Jeff MacNelly
Must have been fishing the Riet or Kalkfontein dam.Extrememly good fish if from that region.
[QUOTE=Morne;203819]A friend just send me these cellphone pictures of a monster Barbel that he caught about an hour ago on a Fish Skull fly. He then rigged up his 9 weight and landed this monster. Took him 35 min to land.

Nice to see an Okuma Airframe 79 reel - what I use for my dam fishing (and some SM too0 - great reels (and less than R 150 each)!

Flytyer - Where great flytying begins
Okumas Airframes is one of my favorite flyreels. Lightweight and extremely durable. Scratches do not show easy. I use two small okumas and 2 big ones. From yellowfish to Tiger, they do the job. No corrosion even if you use them in the sea.
Barbel taken on normal rod and reel in December.
This one took a small fly on 5 weight flyrod. Was one looooooong fight.
