I'm not sure about the Parys area but here in Potch if it is summer we wade without waders, and I have not heard of someone taking ill.
Hi All
A season or 2 ago there were some reports / articles in TCFF and the like, that the pollution in the Vaal (around Potch/Parys) had reached levels where it was advised not to wade without waders, bite off tippet etc.
Does anyone know if the situation has improved to the point where the waders can be left at home and wade in baggies/shorts?
Thanks
Jean

Maybe it was just when the sewage plants that were not working was in the news, and the Vaal got some spillover. Let's hope.
Cheers
don't know about wading the vaal without a wader so much but that's just me ...
I've been wading the vaal around parys for 2 years, and have never worn waders, i've held flies in my mouth and bitten off tippet, hell i've even taken a couple falls and gone completely under, and i've never gotten sick.
I must say I wouldn't take a sip of the water,as tempted as i've been at times, but i don't think you need to worry about skin exposure. but don't hold me to anything
I've never had issues.

I once fished Beat 3 at Christiana, started to feel dizzy and by the time I reached the car, I had one hell of a feaver. Drove to Bloem, straight to hospital, 5 days later I was relead. Bacterial infection from the Vaal. Since then the Vaal saw me only occasionally.
