It is interesting to see so many different tying styles 'emerge' on something as 'simple' as a brassie.

I 1st tied brassies as per "From tying to fishing for smallmouth yellow fish with Jacques Marais' - 1 of the 1st DVDs I bought when I started out.

I have never really questioned the superglue method, until now.

Tied a few this morning by tying-in the wire underneath the hookshank, from bead to start of hook-bend and then wrapping back with the wire. It is slightly bulkier than the single-layer wrapping but not excessively so and looks great.

This got me wondering; what size wire [Med, BR, SM] do you guys use with what size hook?

I am tying #16 at the moment and not sure if the MED is ok or whether I should go thinner

Thanks for all the replies; I can sense we will soon see an SBS from 1 of our resident experts

I use a needle to put some LockTite on the hook shank....then turn the wire on. With this you dont have that "smudgy" look as all the glue is under the wire.

That little bottle will last about 100 flies, and never dries up, even iff you leave the cap off for 3 days. ( Experience )
Ag kack Herm, you do that so that you can sniff the stuff easier?

I am cautiously optimistic. I have taken next Friday off and will be leaving early to stop in at 1 or 2 streams on the way there, hoping for 3 species of yellows in 1 weekend . . .

    It's also not as if I didn't accept...pay...prepare...etc either!
    Talk about sudden bad timing.

But I may be fishing for browns, rainbows and grayling in some crystal clear streams instead, so I guess I can't complain too much...
