    Question Brassies and @#$% SUPERGLUE

Do you guys normally use superglue when tying brassies?

If not, do you just wrap the wire or do you use something other than superglue for durability and to keep the wire from unwrapping

I am tying up some flies [brassies presently] for an upcoming SM session planned for 18 Nov '11. As I have different brands of superglue and thus different tube designs [all of them crap] I am getting superglue on everything... got glue on the vice, my hands, some tools, etc. It's a mess...

    Any suggestions?

I am considering using a thicker clear glue just to gain control back.

i dont use anything on mine, but maybe if it's killing you the way it is, just wrap the wire, trim etc then add some epoxy over the wire. will hold it in place forever, help it sink quicker and keep the ribbing look

also, tie in at the head, wrap to the bend tightly, then wrap in open turns back to the head and tie off? as per Gerrit's flies (squashies) sp

If you insist on using superglue, you should try gorilla glue.
The applicator bottle makes fine control easy and its made of decent plastic so it doesnt break and leak all over the show. Its also a more flexible glue and takes a bit longer to set that gewone super glue too.

You could go with a thin coat of UV Knot Sense. It is fairly pliable until exposed to the sun.

Barend, I know someone in the ahesives industry that will be able to sort you out with the correct product. Rumour has it that he uses it for his own tying and is very happy with it
