    Exclamation Landlocked

    Hay ppl!!!

I just heard some interresting news about the Quarry area being closed at sterkies for both boat and other fisherman, because of some competition....

Is this true? And can you still drive around the back and park there?

We normally park there and then hike and fish the water toward eskol north and south.... Does anyon know if you can still go there asit is probably the spot we go to 90% of the time as we don't have a boat... and if the NW is blowing the north pier, vulture bay area is sort of bad fishing...

And we are not about to pay R200 bucks to go into quintany to fish per day....

Or is there another way to get to the eskol area....?

I'm trying to get hold of Dave Weaver and Andre Burger but for some weird reason I can't get through...
So tell me.... How Big's yours?

Try Dennis de Klerk, 084 581 4847. He will have all the info if you can't get hold of Dave.

I was only referring to a call to Dennis to ask about the closure of certain sections, that's all.

Dave will put you up for the entire weekend for less than that [assuming a group of 4], B&B in town incl. and some excellent guiding.

It was R2500 when I asked for a quote last year. I think this was for 2 people, can't remember really so I stand corrected.

Ok... So for those fly fisherman that prefer not to blow holes in the bank, who simply do not have that amount of cash(like me) to give away or if you are a "suinige bliksem" and do not want to hire a guide, I spoke to Dave Weaver and found out the following...

Due to the morons bashing the spawning beds at the quarry, The green police closed the quarry for both guys that used to drive around and park by the wall and hiked to eskol and so forth and the boat fisherman as well. SO PLAINLY THIS MEANS NO IDJITS FISHING THE QUARRY BAY AREA ARE ALLOWED!!! CAPICE???

I then spoke to the Parks board and they informed me that any one that is caught fishing at the quarry area will be fined up and over a R1000 and will have there equiptment confiscated immediatly for destruction.

So if your like me(who fishes from the bank, walks to the destination and don't own a boat) you have the following options left.
    1. You can still fish the area from sandy bay towards wre you can walk to(vulture bay, etc) hoping the NW stays away.
    2. You may pay day fees at quantany of R200 per day and fish there where ever you like.
    3. You may become a member of the local HS based fishing clubs and then pay a rediculous amount to "rent a spot on the eastern shore for a day
    4. You can break the law by parking somewhere along the quantany road, hopping over a fence and hiking down to the waters edge!!

    Hope this helps.
Any more info needed you can PM me.

Great I hope they fine all the morons who fish there, and also take out the subsistance guys who fish there during the spawn. The dam is already getting stuffed up the fishing has degraded and the BASS fisherman are shipping in more and more crap to the dam.
It is a tough place without a boat.

It's really unfortunate that the fishing has started to suffer. I remember going there with my dad 9 years ago. Jis, it was not hard work at all to land at least a bag of 20 yellows per day and with an average bag size of around 2kg. Nowadays I find it really hard to land the 2k+ fish as they have grown quite weary.

It's tough without a boat, but not unforgiving.... The boat does give access to more water, but I'd rather be on dry land when a sterkies storm hits, and besides the fishing comes alive during a storm with a bead head nymph hopped inside the waves....

Oooo and the Bass... I like fishing for bass, but they have a tendancy to crush the native species once they take old in a system.... But kill them when you catch them at sterkies, they make for one hell of a "lekker" dinner!
