    Default LM in Sterkies?

I noticed Dennis de Klerk holding a very decent LM yellow in his advert in TCFF.

So, does anybody ACTIVELY target LM in Sterkies?

How many are in the dam? Worth targeting them or not?

Attached is an example of the beautiful LM Sterkies holds.

There are certain spots around the dam that I will go to to actively target largies. There is a healthy population in the dam, and chances of hooking one is good. Sometimes you catch them by accident too...they will eat a dry fly no problem, if they are around and you manage to fool them. I've seen a few BIG boys in the dam!! And some huge smallmouth too.

But in the winter, stick to the Vaal rather. Sterkies in the winter is not pleasant, and not really worth going and targeting LM then. They are too far dispersed and no sightfishing is possible...fish are just not where you would expect them.

Barend, most target yellows, but there are bass and barbel and l/mouth as well. Just have to target your specie there.

I was at sterkies this last week, one of the lads picked up a fairly decent LM Yellow (we also got a couple of LM bass on beetles - go figure )

So seems they are around. The guys showing us around the dam reckoned that targetting them is hardwork , but i guess the better you know the dam the better your chances ...

    Nice!

Was windy as hell. Got fish on the Friday and blanked the rest of the weekend.

ya, this time of year is tough ... water temp still hovering around 16.5!

we got lucky with the wind though, had a few hours idyllic conditions and picked up a couple of fish

Yeah, last weekend was a tough one! My buddy Andre was taking all the Mavungana guys around on his boat and they all blanked. It was just after full moon, cold and windy as heck during the day, apparently.

Andre lost two on the Friday though, and that was it!

The weekend before that, building up to full moon; Mark Yelland and the guys managed a couple of good fish.

Full Moon has never really been great for Yellows in general, well from my experiences.
