I was there last weekend of November, water tempt was still cold at around 16C. Fishing was tough, but as always the rewards are there to be had if you put in the effort:

So were you part of the TCFF event?

Spoke to Andre the monday after that and I have been tracking the weather ever since.

I don't mind working hard for each scale as it makes it all the more rewarding, but the mate coming with, is a "sterkies virgin" so hope the temps picked up a bit.

DO you know which spots were producing?

no was not there with TCFF, spots working depends on which way the wind blows. Wind was from the NE when i was there and most of our fish came from the ararat and nieuwejaars areas.

Thanks for the info. Those parts of town are out of range for us,seeing as we are "landlocked" fishers.

I was there last weekend, and it was tough. We had a mixed bag of weather conditions, and the water temps are still low (17C). Found some fish in the Ararat area.

Had a friend up there about 10 days ago.
Everybody insisted that he MUST do it the dry fly way,(beatle and hopper patterns) as it is the way to fish.
After 1,5 days of nothing, he decided to switch to little nymphs.
Had plenty of fish on the nymphs with intermediate lines and slow retrieves.
The rest who insisted on dries only, went home fishless.

Sterkies PMS!!! Been there done that.... Its not sterkies if you do not have at least 2 seasons in one day!

Most people think of sterkies only as dry fly country, when you can have so much fun catching on the wet fly as well. In fact my biggest fish at sterkies were caught in the howling NW with a #16 GRHE in about 2feet of water just behind the breaking waves...

Ag wat, will make the best of it next week, hopefully the fish will have moved in to eskol north and south by then...
