    Default silly season upon us

Shad season is here and as fly anglers it is exceptionally hard to fish.people dont care about u casting all they r worried about is how many theycan get.Thats why im proud to be a fly fisherman because we need grace and skill to do what we do.I hope its a gud season for us.
    Down to tackle
I use a 9 wt rod with intermediate line.
I normally use a medium to fast retrieve.
    Flies
Clousers ,sprats, squids and any fly thats got a lot of flash in it.
So good luck snd wstch out for the silly season

Ahh how i love the hussle and bussle of Shad fishing... I will be kitted out with a few 2/0 Mustad 34007's polished to perfection no flash required, maybe just add a dumbell for weight!

For Shad in the Kromme/Gamtoos/Sondags especially in the mouth/inflow of those rivers try lso lobbing a plain white clouser or a plain pink SF Fibre clouser ... I have had days where that outproduced every other colour combo, especially for the Shad.

Mark, Here we don't often get big Shad and hardly ever carry wire so we end up using only 20lb tippet for the little guys, They usually range up to about 35cm. Last year when they arrived here a mate and I managed to get about 3 or so before we retied the fly. But guess a little wire wont hurt if they are in a frenzy Heard the Sards are along the Transkei, so you guys in the cape should already be into some good Shad?
