Thread: Bluefin Kingfish ID

    Default Bluefin Kingfish ID

    Hi guys,

I was recently in Madagascar and caught quite a few kingies off the beaches and points.

I'm convinced this is a bluefin kingfish...

But then also caught a few of these with the blue markings on the back. Are they also bluefin kingies? More mature perhaps?

Any ideas? What are the glistening blue markings below the dorsal fin?

    Thanks,
    Warren

I think the "glistening blue markings" are where scales have been lost or damaged.

Cute little fish hey? I got some on Kiritimati on 2wt:

You're spot on Warren, they are young Bluefins. Not yet the beautiful electric blue of the adult fish, but still as spectacular as all the Kingfish species!
