    They are both Smallmouth.
Jannie you need to measure the distance between the front gillplate and the corner of the mouth, not the back of the gills.

Largie on the left and Smallie on the right

Second fish is a largie, not a smallmouth. Look at the head, and the position of the gillplate. Plus, the mouth shape.
Pics from the top, and the front, will confirm it.

    But anyway, great catches.

Yeah true...I've only been fishing for them for the past 16 years...what do I know?

So these pics attached are all largies then...determined by using the measurement system described earlier?

OK Mike, its clear we are misunderstanding eachother here, here's your pics as per my initial method, not Largies anymore?

But, to clear any confusion, here is a nice link to one of Gerrit's posts put up a while ago http://www.flytalk.co.za/forum/showt...-vs-Largemouth

Just to show the two tests on the actual fish in question, the first pic is with Gerrits test and the second one with my test.

This is the two methods on an actual largie(I used a relatively small largie, the blue line is per Gerrits description and the red is with my method. This shows the reason why I prefer my method.

Not my test; Gordon O Brian. Blykbaar 12 verskille tussen SMY en LMY.

This "IS" a LMY. 'n Monster net so onder die 8kg's!
