Is it even possible to catch shallow water tailing grunter?? Serious frustrations kicking in. Ive tied and tried everything I can think of but I cant seem to connect to those tailing fish. Next time ill try working waste deep water blind casting hoping that might do the job. Im going crazy seeing 2-3kg fish eat at my feet and not getting their attention.

Yes it is. I got two in 40cm water. It takes a lot of patience and your presentation and stealth must be spot on. But it is possible.

Were you stalking tailing fish? Did you get thrm while they were tailing? My stealth is not a problem, I get within easy casting distance with more than one attempt at a fish. But still not able to connect.

Yes it is possibly. The deeper it gets (and murkier) the easier it is. The Southern Cape estuaries from Sedgies to the west are some of the hardest codes to crack. There are sand flats were you're fishing to fish in 10 - 15cm of water. Their backs still out!

Don't presume your stealth is adequate - they often notice you well before you get a presentation in but keep moving along their feeding pattern. There is slight change in body language that gives this away (they often keep cruising but stop actively feeding) and only bolt when they get close to you. I'll even sometimes hide in the grass or go into a full crouched kneeling position and stay dead still once the direction of a fish has been established!

Oh yes only 20 - 30 meters away and behaving like typical grunts.
Mr Davis you git that spot on in my experience.

Thx fdavis. I will keep that in mind on my next session of frustrations.. also think I will start off in the slightly deeper water and work my way shallower.
