a couple of interesting patterns.
The about grunter I dont know, but bass, definitely.
Some flies I have been playing around with recently. Designed for our N.Z. Snapper but so far have only been monstered by Kahawai.
Do you guys think that in smaller sizes and the right colours they may appeal to Grunter in the surf?

Nymphing, adds depth to your fly fishing.
Nymphing, is fly fishing in another dimension
I think they will appeal to the sand sharks too.

Nice flies Jack do you take orders?
Kevin; call in next time you are in the area and I'll give you a couple to try. How is the "K" fishing?
Went out on the flats in the harbour looking for Rat Kingies but the sea lettuce got just too much to handle.
Haven't been out on the streams lately. Have Fun.

Hi Jax,
Very innovative flies, I like!
Grunter is very difficult to catch on fly (but very easy on bait!), becomes some sort of addiction if you get into them. The flies mostly need to resemble the sand/mud prawn, the grunter "blow" them out of their holes in the sand banks by squirting a jet of water into the holes.
Flies which are known to work is the JAM fly and and deer hair prawn variations.
Your third fly might just work, but I do think you would have to use more natural colourations.
Here is a nice link:

Enjoy!

EDIT: Sorry did not read properly, you want to target them in the SURF, sorry have no idea how that would work! What I explained above is for estuaries. I left my entry for your interest sake.
