    Default Vaal Dam

    Hi Guys

I am looking for a spot at Vaal Dam where I can target Barbel and Grasscarp on fly. Any suggestions on a day venue ?

With good rains (like now) there is a nice little stream running into the Vaaldam at Steyns and the barbel go completely nuts at the inflow. We caught them with platannas (still legal back then, years ago) on a short line under the rod tip while wading. Lots of fun.
Otherwise, this may help (hope the link works) https://maps.google.co.za/maps/ms?ms...8d385440&msa=0

Reveck, sorry I no longer have Terry's number. You could contact the RPA ( Rand Piscatorial Association ), Terry was part of the management about 5 years ago.

Also try the Jhb fly shops, FFU, Urban, FFF etc. they might have his number.

Don't right off Silver Strome for both species, especially after the good flows. They will both be holding in the river grass, which is quite thick, so don't be shy on thick leaders and tippets.
It's not in the catching, it's in the learning something new.

Pity, sorry about that. Did you drive all the way for nothing?
