    Default Micro Dries

This is more for the Cape Stream fly fishers.
The last couple of times, I have been on the streams, in the slower water, I found the fish very active, but could not see the flies. Eventually I have found tiny, or rather call them Micro flies on the river.
At times I could not even "spot" the flies, and only after using a a fine net, I could see the micro flies,
Have any of the other Cape guys had the same experience, with these very small dry flies?

Yes, at this time of the year, in the warmer months, and when the flows are running low, there is a very small beetle that sometimes show itself. If you take a white handkerchief and skim the water, you will see them as tiny black dots. they can be very frustrating when try to fish when the trout are feeding on them. I had it a couple of weeks ago. fish rising , but difficult to catch. I eventually gave up on my attempts to get them on the surface, and went back to nymphing the deeper runs and riffles.

We need Tim R to get involved. Last I saw he has some great micro patterns.

What was very interesting, the one time, there were a couple of fish in the pool and at times, some of the fish, were almost racing each other, to these micro flies.

Its not possible to tie anything small enough to match these. The ones Korries talking about are about the size of a pin head.

Mostly these tiny hooks are not always available. Many moons ago when I still fished a lot and tried a couple of weird things, I tied a double fly on a #20 hook, and it worked really well actually. But, like most things i just forgot to ever do it again

Thats seriously impressive, I think the smallest I have gone is 19, and that was for Darryl's Hi-Vis midge, which is a piece of cake to tie

Between a size of pin head and a size of a fat flea, that you will find on a dog,
It is almost if the trout go on feeding frenzy, like game fish in a bait ball.

Tiny blob of dubbing with hackle both sides, bit bare shank in the middle Jade - a real no brainer fly

Size #24 - #32 parachutes work well but when they are being really selective I find Catskill style dries in small sizes to be more effective. I think this is due to the fact that the very small flies struggle to pierce the surface film so a Catskill style dry is a better imitation.
