    Default Fly newbie

    Hi All

Great to have found a nice forum to learn more about SA venues and flyfishing itself.

So I am quite a noobie when it gets to fly fishing. A friend gave me his rod and empty reel. Im already an avid artlure angler.

But want to learn more about flyfishing.

So I spooled the reel and bought a few flies. Then had the opportunity to go to the Limpopo river on Easter weekend. Atleast a got a rednose mudfish.

So you are welcome to give me tips! Im all ears. Or I would be happy to tag along on a trip

    Welcome Joubert,

You will also enjoy the Vaal for Yellows, lots of info. on that. Also many opportunities in the Dullstroom area this time of year.

    Hi Joubert,

Great! That looks more like a largescale bushveld yellowfish, might be wrong? Let's here it from from those in the know.

Where is this wear on the Limpopo? Been fishing in the Limpop quite a bit when I was young, lots of makriele/silver barbel.

Looking upstream it looks like the weir in front of Mount Amanzi below Harties, looking downstream it looks entirely different.

It does, but I seem to recall the loodvis having smaller scales, not as visible as these ones and a darker colour to the body, almost like that of a Muddy.

Mark de Jager posted a clip on FT years ago about catching lots and lots of Loodvis, I'll send this to him and revert with what he says.
